TECHNICAL COLLEGE BOARD

MONTHLY' MEETING. Tho usual monthly mating of the Southland- Technical College Was hold on Friday, there being present —Messrs H. PI. Niven (chairman), W. A. Cox, J. Gilkison, A, L. Wyllie, J. H. Reed, F. St.- J. Loughnan, A. Peterson, W. Ashley. and W. R, Riddell. An apology wati received'from Mr Johnson. ■ i Before proceeding with the usual business of the meeting, the chairman extended a cordial welcome to Mr .1. H. Reed, who had been appointed by the Invercargill Woolbrokere’ Association to succeed Mr J. E. Watson, who had retired owing to ill-health. CORRESPONDENCE. ( Th’e secretary of the Education Department wrote stating that the old method of issuing students’ train tickets would be reverted to. —Received. The Plumbers’ Board of New Zealand wrote stating that no examinations for apprentices would be held this August owing to the insufficiency of entries. — Noted, although the Board was of opinion that the examinations should be held as usual. Miss M. Wilson applied for a fortnight’s leave of absence owing to Utli oelth. —Granted. DIRECTORS’ REPORT. The Director reported as follows: — Technical High School—The roll number of the Technical High School at the present time Is 208. Despite the fact that a proportion of the students have entered Into employment during the half-year, there is still some difficulty in accommodating the number in attendance. It would be a very decided relief If use could be made of the No. 2 Cookery Room next year as suggested by the Organising Inspector. The students are carrying on work for the Red Cross and the Patriotic Committees respectively. A very considerable sum of money has been collected for the Red Cross, and the girls are making up a definite number of bandages each month, whilst the trade boys are making ban-dage-rolling machines and bandage cases, Tiic girls are also sowing 100 articles per month for the Soldiers’ Gift Committee, apd a class comprised chiefly of older students meets each week, to roll bandages, and make swabs and other surgical necessities.
