ANNUAL RE-UNION. PRESENTATION OK TROPHIES. There was an attendance of about 100 people at the first annual re-union of the Win ton Agricultural and Pastoral Association which took place on Ttrursday night. The function was also rendered additionally attractive by the presentation of the various trophies that were won by competitors at the annual Show. These provided a most attractive display, and were greatly admired by those who inspected the very choice selection. The president (Air R. .1. Anderson) occupied the chair, and kept things moving merrily in his characteristically 'happy way. The chairman, in opening the function, said that he was pleased to see such a large and representative gathering present, and was especially glad to see so many of Southland's foremost breeders of stock at the function. In proposing the toast of "The Successful Competitors," Mr Ande.rsnn referred to the great progress the Association had made during the short time it had been in existence. They had a good ground, with not a shilling of debt on it, and they had over £2OO to their credit in the hapK. He paid a 'high tribute to those who had pioneered the Association. He expressed the hope that they would have many similar re-unions. The people connected with the Association had gone into the work of making it a success with heart and soyl. He referred appreciatively to the splendid support they had received from the people of Invercgrgill, and made special mention of the fact that Sir Joseph Ward had sent along a cup without being approached in the matter of giving a donation.

The least was enthusiastically honoured, and was responded to by Messrs Walter Blakie (Branxholme). D. XVishart (Ryal Bush), R. Kennedy (Drummond), AVm. Kennedy /(Bayswater), John Kennedy (Fortification), on behalf of his son. Master Roland Kennedy, Thos. King (Awarua dairy factory), and XV. Rankin (Underwood). Following is a list of the trophies and the winners:— Llmehills—South Hiilend cup for champion draught stallion, to be won twice in succession or three times at intervals, those who have a "leg-in" being Mr .1. B. Fordo (He.ddon Bush) with Premier Balgarvie in 1913; Mr John Ewan with Ardrimersay Prince (since deceased) in 1914, and Mr Donald Macdonald (Edendale) with Scotland's Stamp in .1915.

Messrs Brown and Kennedy's cup for most points in milking classes —Mr D. XVishart (Ryal Bush). Oreti farmers’ cup for • champion draught mare, to be won twice in succession or three times at intervals. —In 1913 Mr XValter Blakie was successful with Queen of the Roses. In 1914 Mr R. Kennedy was first with Kate of Drummond, and by winning with Maggie Balgarvie in 1915 he. secured the cup. Mr F. Tilley’s-cup for most points in sheep—Mr XX'nr. Kennedy.

Mr .T. B. Thomson's cup for most points in Holstein cattle —Mr .T. Pirie (■Woodlands). ( The President’s (Mr B. .T. Anderson), the vice-president's (Mr Wm. Baird), and Mr .1. Tobin’s cup for the most points in horses, cattle and sheep—Mr Wm. Kennedy. Mr Finlay McTvor's cup for best boy or girl rider —Master Boland Kennedy (Fortification). Mr Murdo JlcKay's cup for the most points in cheese —Mr Thos. King (Awarua dairy factory). Mr J. A. Keith’s cup for the best milking cow—Messrs Bankin Bros. (Underwood). Sir Joseph Ward's cup for most points in light horses —Mr B. H. Bisset (Avondale). Other toasts honoured during the evening were:—"The King;’’ “The Army and Navy," proposed by Mr T. Walker, and responded to by Mr P. de la Pcrrella, and Surgeon-captain Gow; "Agricultural and Pastoral Interests,” proposed by Mr .las. Tobin, supported by Mr .1. B. Hamilton, and responded to by Messrs Walter Blakie and John McDonald (Messrs Wright, Stephenson and Co., Ltd.): “Our Umpire and our Soldiers,” proposed by Mr W. E. Taylor, and responded to by Mr W. H. Browne, Mr John Keith, one of whose sons was killed at the front, and Mr John Fraser (Boggyburn), who has two sons at the front; “Donors of Trophies,” proposed by Mr C. D. Moore, and responded to by Messrs J. McDonald, W. E. Taylor, and J. Findlay (Oreti): “Winton A. and P. Association,” proposed by Mr F. McLeod (Caroline), and responded to by Mr R. J. Anderson and Mr John Poole; ‘‘The Judges, Canvassers, and Unsuccessful Competitors,” proposed by Mr Hugh Ross (Dipton), and responded to by Messrs John Fraser, John Keith, Jas. Tobin, W. Weir and Ewan Patterson (Glenure); "The Press,” proposed by Mr tv. Colder (Dunearn), and supported by Mr J. H. Thomson (Lochiel), the first president of the Association; “The Chairman,” by Mr H. Cunningham; and “The .Secretary” (Mr J. A. Broom) by Mr Jas. Tobin. During the evening songs jwere sung by Messrs “Fred Suet” (Invercargill), E. W. Wright (Invercargill), F. Tilley, B. D. Edwards (Invercargill). J. A. Broom, F. Mulligan,, and Jas. Tobin. A recitation was given by Mr M. J. Fordc, and Mr R. D. Edwards played the accompaniments in his usual capable manner.

The function, which was a most homely and enjoyable one from commencement to end, was brought to a conclusion by the singing of "Auld Lang Syne” and a verse of the National Anthem, and hearty cheers for the success of the Association..
