ENEMY TRADE
DISCUSSED AT TKA v conference:. “ALE FOR THE EMPIRE” LEAGUE FORMED. ACTIVE STEPS PROPOSED. (Per United Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, February 10. At the annual conference of the Commercial Travellers’ and Warehousemen's Association to-night it was decided to constitute an “All for the Empire League,” one of the principal objects being the elimination of German trade within the Empire by means of a prohibitive tariff and an increase of shipping dues on all German and present enemy vessels visiting New Zealand ports. Resolutions were passed by the Conference approving any scheme having the object of the elimination of enemy trade from tiie dominion, anil undertaking to bring before the members of affiliated Associations the necessity for an Immediate active canvass towards the accomplishment of the suggestions set out in the objects of the “All for the Empire League.” Mr G. O. Orchard, president of the Conference, said lie was quite satisfied that enemy goods were still coming in. They were purchased in neutral countries in good faith, but turned out to bo enemy productions. He emphasised the necessity for Government action to prohibit enemy trade.
