SOCIAL RALU'. L«4at evening a social rally of the Invercargill and district Christian Endeavour Union.-: was held in the Don street Methodist Church. The attendance was a large one, the Rev. S. Henderson presiding over representatives of most of the Unions. An interesting programme composed of musical and elocutionary items was arranged and altogether =!n enjoyable evening was spent. The Rev. W. Ready addressed the gathering on what constituted true greatness. Ho instanced wealth, which many considered to be the emblem of true greatness. It would be only a fool, he said, wht would run down wealth, as it was a mighty power in the land and by its aid many great things could bn accomplished. He counselled them to save, to get and to give all the money they could, but while doing so stated that it was erroneous to think that we j Ith constituted true greatness, as many men living were wealthy but -were miaus the greatness. Others said that knowledge was power, and he advised them to get as much wholesome lea.ming as they could, but said that after all a handful of good life was better than bushels of learning. He advised them also to get a gooji strong body, but not to go away with the idea that bigness was greatness. Purity of character, love to God and to man and service for the Most High, were the emblems of true greatness, which could not be found in wealth, intellectual knowledge, health or social status.
