NAVAL DEFENCE
AUSTRALASIA’S POSITION. THROUGH ENGLISH SPECTACLES. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—CopyrightLOXDOX, July 6. The Pall Mail Gazette’s naval correspondent. discussing Now Zealand’s request for two cruisers of the Bristol class, says that they would be hardly less futile than the ships already in New Zealand waters. Zealous though Australia and New Zealand are in naval affairs, they hardly seemed to grasp the first principles upon which tho distribution of the fleet was grounded. It would be useless to pit Bristol cruisers against battleships and armoured cruisers. New Zealanders having given the New Zealand, have a right to be annoyed at the non-fulfilment of the Admiralties promise that three battle cruisers should be maintained on the station, but the despatch of Bristol cruisers would not till the hiatus.
