Messrs Wright, Stephenson and Co.. Ltd., report having conducted a highly s; tis factory clearing stile a t Isia Bank on Monday. Bth inst.. when they exposed to auction all the live stock, implements, etc., on .Messrs A, and W. V. Lindsay's farm, which they sold recently to Mr Win. Bain!, of Invercargill. The Messrs Lindsay are perhaps the oldest settlers in the Drummond district. anil none more highly respected. Evidence of this fact was very apparent by the large attendance of farmers and others, in spite of tite fact that the morning did not promise to produce a line day. However, the rain kept off. uni the sale throughout was a pleasure to conduct. Drummond lias always boasted of its Clydesdale mares, and that the Lindsay family own some, of the pick is admitted. These wore shown in excellent condition and bloom, and in suite of the slump in the iiorse market bidding was very animated, and splendid prices were received. The first mare offered was a 12-year-old. got by Shepherd Lad. and one which would do credit to any sire. Notwithstanding her advancing years, she was particularly gay and attractivcli eking, and appeared to be good for many more years. Site is safely in foal to Mr J. B, Fords horse. Premier Balga.rvie. Amongst the others were some very nice sorts, one, particularly, a 5-year-oUI mare by Royal Derby, for which there was keen competition. A number of young colts and fillies by Ptemier Balgarvie wore also sold at satisfactory prices. I at £3 15s. 7 calves £3. Two pigs sold at II Is each, and implements and sundries at full market rates. An excellent luncheon was provided by the ladies, for whom three cheers were called by the auctioneers, and to which there was a hearty response. The local grain market is in a very quiet state, there being no offerings from the country and little or no enquiry for grain. So far as wheat is eoneerned the most demand is for fowl wheat. There is little business to lx- done in feed oats and since the London market declined the demand for A grade oats has fallen off.
