The conference of representatives of allied unions, which acted as an executive during the strike, have decided to make the standing committee of the strike period a permanent federation to create the machinery for united action by organised Labour. The federation will cover 1.'.0,000 unionists, who will refrain from striking without the allied bodies being first consulted. A committee has been appointed to draft rules.

Mr W. M. Hughes, the chairman, was presented with an address thanking him for his services during the New Zealand strike. It is stated lit at this federation is a direct: outcome of the New Zealand strike.

The Arbitration Court award has been tiled in lire Wellington provincial coachworkers’ dispute, and provides for the increase in wages of journeymen from Is 3d to Is iVfed per hour, and Is extra for leading hands. Forty-eight hours per week are again granted, and the wages of helpers, as apart from apprentices, are as follows:—16 years, IPs; 17, 20s; IS. 255; 19. ,50s; 20. 40s; over 20. Is per hour. Overtime was fixed at time and a quarter for the first three hours aad time and a-half afterwards.

TRAMWAY EMPLOYEES

WELLINGTON. April 6

A complete settlement lias been arrived at by the Conciliation Council, under Commissioner Hally, in regard to the Wellington tramway employees’ dispute. The settlement will formally go before the Arbitration Court and be made into an award, to date from the Ist of April, and to remain in force till the 30th .Tune, 1916.

HOTEL TARIFFS TO BE RAISED,

The granting of a six-day week to Wellington hotel workers has had the effect of livening up the agitation for an extension of the principle to all sevenday occupations. The members of the Police Force and the Wellington gas and coke workers to-day approached the Wellington Trades and Labour Council with a view to instituting a campaign for securing this concession.

The Wellington Hotel Employees' Union are now taking steps to apply the six-day week to local private hotels, restaurants, and tea rooms.

The hotelkeepers propose to increase their tariffs by not less than Is a day to meet the increased charges imposed through the award. A meeting will be held on Thursday afternoon to decide the matter.
