The Chapman Commission recommends ihe appointment of a commissioner to administer industrial legislation; also conciliation boards, voluntary registration of trade unions, (he regulation of shop hours, and a Factories Act. A “Gazette" published in September announced the appointment of a Commission of Inquiry into wages, working hours, and cost of living in various centres, and also into the question of a minimum wage. Mr Sydney Chapman, Professor of Political Economy in the University of Manchester, was chairman of the Commission. DEPORTED MEN’S WIVES. LONDON, March 4. Various women’s organisations are preparing a reception to the deported men’s wives.
