CHRISTCHURCH CASES (Per United Press Association). CHRISTCHURCH, August 19At the Supreme Court criminal sittings Robert Blair Stewart, charged with breaking and entering and theft, was sentenced to two years. John Hitchcock, a weak looking man. pleaded not guilty to a charge of attempting to murder Ills sister, Annie Hitchcock, at Akaroa, on April 20th last. The jury, , without leaving the box. found prisoner not guilty on the ground of insanity. Mr Stringer, Crown Prosecutor, said that his Honour, under the Criminal Code, could order the prisoner to be kept in safe custody until the Minister’s pleasure was known. Mr Bedford, for the defence, asked that prisoner be committed to Seacliff. Ilis Honour said that this was a matter for the Minister, and Mr Stringer said he would a.sk for a stay of proceedings on the attempted suicide charge. Edward Clarence Wilton was sentenced to six months' imprisonment for breaking, entering, and theft.
