AGRICULTURAL EVENTS POR WEEK ENDING AUGUST 23rd.

—Friday. August 22nd. — Clearing sale at Mr C. T. Grant's farm, Benmore, by Messrs Wright, Stephenson and Co. DUNEDIN MARKETS. GRAIN AND PRODUCE SALES. Messrs Donald Reid and Co. report : We held our weekly sale of grain and produce on Monday, when values ruled as under;— Oats.—The market is quiet, except for prime, milling Oartons and heavy sparrowbllls. There is practically no export business passing and most of the lines changing hands are for local consumption and for farmers' seed requirements. Prime milling, 2s 2%d to 2s 3d; good to best feed, 2s l%d to 2s 2%d: inferior to medium, Is 10c! to 2s Id per bushel (sacks extra). Wheat.—There is no change to report. Millers’ inquiries are chiefly for prime lines of velvet ear, and prices for all classes are on the same level as those of last week. Prime milling velvet. 4s to 4s 3d; velvet ear. 3s 8d to 3s 10d; Tuscan, 3s 7d to 3s 8d; best whole fowl wheat. 3s 4d to 3s 6d; medium to good, 3s Id to 3s 3d; broken and damaged, 2s 6d to 3s per bushel (sacks extra). Potatoes.—No improvement is evident in the demand for export, and as the market is well supplied, values show no prospect of hardening, and sales, even at late quotations, are not easily made. Best table potatoes, £3 to £3 ss; medium to good. £2 10s to £2 15s per ton (sacks Included).

Chaff. —The wet weather experienced of late has retarded consignments, but stocks in store are stilt fairly heavy. The demand is still almost entirely for prime quality, and a considerable quantity has been disposed of since our last reoort. Badly graded and out-of-condition linos are almost unsaleable. Prime samples can ortly be placed at a reduction in later rates. Best tables. £3 to £3 ss; others, from £2 10s per ton (sacks in). Chaff.—Consignments have been coming to hand freely, the bulk being of medium quality, which is not meeting a ready sale owing to the large quantity already in stores. Buyer-; show preference for prime heavy oaten sheaf, which is meeting a ready sale at the undermentioned rates: Choice black oaten sheaf, £4 7s 6d: best white oaten sheaf. £1 to £4 ss: medium to good. £3 12s Cd to £3 17s Crl; light and discoloured. from £3 per ton (sacks extra). CANTERBURY MARKETS. (Per United Press Association). CHRISTCHURCH, August 19. Grain freights by steamer to the United Kingdom have been red need to 25s per ton for oats and wheat, the rate lining originally 40s and 35s respectively. In the present slate of the Home market and prices ruling here, however, no shipping business is likely to be done. The best offer recently received from London for A grade Cartons was only equal to about Is Bd at country stations, which is 6d and 7d per bushel less than oats could ho purchased for. Wheat prices are also above parity of London values. Very little wheal is offering from growers, and Tuscan is rather easier than it was. Oats are being firmly held, and of this cereal there are none offering. The potato market continues to decline. and the best offer is now 355, at which some sales tire being made, as growers are now anxious to sell. Some buyers are only offering 30s at country siations.
