MR MASSEY AT DARGAVILLE
THB! DOMINION’S FINANCE. (Per United Press Association). DARGAVILLE, January It. Mr Massey find an enthusiastic reception on arrival last night and was subsequently entertained at a public social. In his speech Hie Premier said that Hie difficulties were rapidly disappearing so far as local finance was concerned, hut the difficulty still existed In regard to loan money, which was not controlled by local conditions. Me quoted figures to allow that Hu* revenue for tin* quarter ended December 21 increased by £irir>,.VJ2 and the expenditure decreased by £.1981. These figures indicated a buoyant, revenue, together with economy in ■ expenditure. The net gain of arrivals over departures in 1912 was 5927 against, 1209 in 1911. and 3498 In 1919. With tlie exception of loan money Hie Dominion was never in a more prosperous condition than to-day. Mr Massey asserted that the Government was sticking to its pledges. He particularly referred to the freehold policy, abolition of patronage in Hie public service, and an elective Upper Jlouse, which reform he hoped, to see carried next session or at any rate he*pre the end of the present Parliament.
