Tlie committee set up by Parliament to Investigate tlie Government’s Alarconi contract has invited the Postmas-ter-General (tlie Hon. H. L. Samuel) to give ids opinion on tlie interim report which the committee lias drafted. This report recommends the Immediate purchase of sites for wireless stations to form tin Imperial chain throughout tlie .British possessions. It suggests that the Government Department should execute the work, and also recommends the immediate appointment of a highly-qualified technical committee to advise on the merits of the various systems, and on any changes that may b© found necessary in tlie future. Air Samuel replied that be would gladly act on tlie first recommendation. Tlie agreement contemplated that tlie contracting companies should bear the whole risk, no payment being made unless the stations were banded over in full working order. Ho thought that tlie technical committee proposed ought to report within a limited time to prevent- delays. Mr Samuel added that he had already consulted the High Commissioners of tho various Dominions, and said that lie was willing to send a Royal Commission, acting in co-operation with the Admiralty, to select an Egyptian site within two months. Thence tho Commission would go to East Africa, Inquiries would also be necessary in India. Singapore had already been suggested as a site. However, the scheme should not bo deferred until tb© more distant sites had been selected.
