HIGH SCHOOLS BOARD
The usual meeting of the High Schools Board was held in the Education Board Boom last night, those in attendance being Messrs W. Macalister (Chairman), B. A. Anderson, A. I'. Hawke. W. X. Stirling and the Secretary (Mr ,T. Xeil). Mr James Struthers was appointed Second Science Master in place of Mr H. M. Budd (resigned). The Rector reported that the roll stood at 152, and that the attendances had been good. The pupils of the school intended to give a gymnastic display in the theatre on Aug. 22, the first for three years. Mr H. M. Budd had been appointed to and had accepted a post in Lincoln College; therefore his place would have to be filled before the end of the month. The Rector recommended Mr J. Struthers for the vacancy. The Lady Principal reported that the attendance had been satisfactory and that the number on the roll was 152. A platform and an addition t<> the verandah. besides other minor improvements were urgently needed. Satisfactory progress was noted in connection with Bchool work. Both reports were adopted and the matter of carrying out the Improvements mentioned in the Lady Principal's report was left in the hands of the chairman. Miss King’s application for an increase n salary was granted and the salary raised to £l9O. Mr Gavin Brighton appeared in person with reference to the re-opening of a coal pit on section 37, IVairio District.— It was resolved to ask the Wairio Coal Co. why the pit had been re-opened, seeing the lease had been forfeited. The Board then went into committee to confer with Miss Jobson, in re the proposed hostel In connection with the girls' school.
