Henderson and Co., agents. The Canterbury Shipping Company’s s.s. Breeze reached Bluff from Lyttelton on Tuesday evening. She had no cargo to discharge, but loaded some 1500 sacks of oats for Wanganui and Wellington. She sailed yesterday morning for Dunedin. The Tyser liner Marere, which reached Bluff on Saturday morning from Wellington, completed her loading operations yesterday and sailed for Lyttelton, She loaded for London : 35,000 carcases mutton, 3550 crates rabbits, 450 bales wool, 450 casks taßow and pelts, and 200 cases of kidneys. The s.s. Cape Corso is to take the July sailing from Montreal, under the auspices of the New Zealand Shipping Company, for Melbourne, Sydney, and New Zealand ports, in place of the Willesden. The White Star mammoth Olympic is under the command of Captain E. J. Smith, R.N.R., formerly of the Adriatic, and the commodore of the Line. It goes without saying that he has had a long experience of the North Atlantic, and that his personal qualities admirably fit him for the responsible post to which he has been appointed. When the Olympic is full she will carry 3346 people, inclusive of her crew, so that her commander will in effect be the ruler of a population equal to that of a small town. The question has been mooted before now as to whether, in the case of very big ships, it would not be well to depart from the usual custom, and appoint two masters instead of one. Weather summary and forecast : Barometer pressure has continued low, but with little movement generally. Cold and changeable weather has been experienced, with rain in many parts of the North Island. Especially moderate to strong southerly winds, backing to westerly, have prevailed. Present indications are for moderate to strong westerly winds and cold unsettled weather. Rain is probable in many parts, and a further fall in the barometer.
