THE NO-LICENSE PARTY

WELLINGTON. Nov. 21. Mr T. E. Taylor, M.P., addressed about 800 people in the Town Hall to-night on. the liquor question. The speech was devoted to a discussion of the amending Bill just passed by Parliament, and to an analysis of the changes made in the law. He generally approved of the measure as being the best .from a prohibition point of view that could be expected or possibly obtained, from the present Parliament. After Mr Taylor’s address the following resolutions were carried; —“This meeting congratulates Parliament upon giving the people the right to vote upon national prohibition, and, whilst expressing its resentment of the three-fifths majority being retained as law, pledges itself to do all in its power to carry no-license in electorates and prohibition for the whole Dominion, at the polls next year; that this meeting protests against the retention of the three-fifths majority in our licensing legislation as being designed to protect property at the expense of the country’s highest interests; it further pledges itself to use every effort to have this unjust burden removed from the democracy, also to have breweries within nolicense areas made subject to the people’s vote, and the period after which successful national prohibition vote will operate reduced from four to two years.”
