WAIAU NOTES.
.{From Qur Own Correspondent.) The annual concert in connection -with Te Tua School was held in the school on Friday evening-, 18th Inst., when the building was crowded with an., appreciative audience. As Is usual on these occasions items by school children had a large place on the programme, and the efficiency shown in their various roles by children of all ages showed that much care and time had been bestowed on them by their teachers, Misses McCallum and Spencer. The programme was as follows: —■‘■The Bell nicelv rendered by the school children; recitation, "The Fireman’s Story,” Mr IT. il. philp (Riverton); song and chorus, "The Maple Leaf for Ever,” Messrs Cochrane; recitation, "The Hindoo's Paradise,” Miss T. Howard: solo, “Sing ,Me to Sleep,” Mrs Ward; duet, "Very Susplcolus,” Mr and Miss ..Fitzgerald; Japanese Fan Song, by senior '.pupils; song* (comic), "The Music Loving Frenchman,” Mr PhtTp; duet, "Life » Dream is O’er,” Misses Robertson and Spencer; recitation, “The Bachelor’s Sale.” Mr McFeely: duet. "The Minute Gun at eSa.” Messrs Adamson and Nicholas; solo, "Won’t you Buy my Pretty Flowers” Miss Rena McKenzie; song, “Good Old Geoff,” by the school boys; solo. “Ho, ho, the Winds Blow,” Mr A. Adamson; song, "Mother’s Little Malden," junior girls; duet, "Watchman what of the Night?” Messrs Richards and MllGun at Sea,” Messrs Adamson and Nicholas; solo, “Home Song,” Miss Robertson; solo, "A Lea Song,” Rev. Mr Campbell; song, “Always in the Way,’ school girls. At the conclusion of the concert, Mr B. Hprrell. chairman of the school committee, moved a hearty vote of thanks to the performers, also to Miss Spencer for the pains she had taken in training the school children, and remarked on the very good feeling prevailing among the various schools in the Waiau dstrict As a- result of the cousert the school prize fund will benefit to a considerable amount. The balloting of the sections, situated near Tuatapere, and recently thrown i tjpen by he Government for workmen’s homes, takes place on Monday, 21st. There will be keen competition for this tand which Tanges In area from five to forty acres. Dairying in the Waiau district Is in ’ full swing, the grass everywhere is showing signs of vigorous growth, and there is every indication that this season will be a record one in the dairying industry.
