CHARGE OF WIFE DESERTION
At the Dunedin Police Court on Friday, before Mr J. B. Bartholomew, S.M.. a charge of deserting 'his wife, Annie Osborne Coghill, at Dunedin on August 15 Was preferred against Kqbert Brunton Cogh ill (late proprietor of the Gore Skating Kink). . , Mr Irwin represented the accused and asked for a remand* H jS* Chief Detective Herbert stated that the accused had been brought back from Sydney by Constable Sweeney and arrived in his custody only the pt-evious afternoon. The evidence was not yet ready, and he would ask* for a remand. When it’ :was probable that accused's wi,fe wouTd be represented by counsel. • .Mr Irwin suggested a remand for a week, and the case was remanded accordingly. .14 Mr Irwin in asking His Worship to fix bail said'that his cljent had been released in Sydney In the sum of 150. and he understood the police in Dunedin would have no objection to that amount. The Magistrate, however, fixed bail In accused's own surety oC £IOO and one other of. 4100 or two of £SO each.
