NEW BUILDING SOCIETY.

Another stop in the progress of Invercargill was marked yesterday evening when a number ot prominent business men met together for the purpose of forming a new St-irr - Bowkett Building Society. The chair was occupied by Mr VV. A. OU. the others present being Messrs C. J. Broad Win. Timpany. R. W. Riddell, A. B. HaggiU, .las. Johnston, J. L. McG. Watson.’ Colin McDonald. G. F. Watson. C. .1. Brodrick, T. Watson, and F. C. Liggins. An apology was received from Mr P. L. Gilkison. The Chairman, in explaining •/'o objects of the meeting, referred to the rapid extenr ion of the town taking place at the present time, and the steady demand for greater .‘acuities -for the building of dwellings of convenient sixes. Several of those present spoke as to the advisability of a now society being formed, after which it was decided that those pre.cnl form t iunnsel ves into a sorb'd y to be called the Southland .Mutual Starr - Bowkett Society. The following provisional directors were fleeted; Messrs W. A. Oil, Wm. Timpany, R. W. Riddell, .las. Johnston, C. J. Broad. O, c. Watson, P. L. Gilkison. Odin .McDonald and C. J. Brodrick; secretary, Mr F. C. Liggins; solicitors, Messrs Watson and Haggilt; .and bankers, the Paul; of New Zealand. A special committee was appointed to draw up the rules of the society to lie submitted for app'-uval. Votes of thanks were accorded to the ('liairi)iau and Secretary for their efforts on behalf of the new society.
