At the Supreme Court to-day Kct& May I'uUira, who had pleaded guilty to a charge of making 11 tal.se declaration in regard to the hirth of her eiiild, was brought up tor sentence, She was discharged and ordered to conic up for sentence when called upon. John McCormick, who has already appeared twice before Mr Justice Cooper during the present sessions on charges of assault and robbery and has twice been convicted, came again on a third clinrge, including counts of assaulting and robbing John Corick of the sum of Jus, and Arthur Jtts. Chick ol ls - thitli offences were committed immediately after one another on the !Uh Dec, last. A verdict of guilty was returned and accused was remanded till to-morrow for sentence. Mr Justice Chapman this afternoon gave judgment in the application of McLean and otliers v. The New Zealand Times Co., Ltd., and The Wellington i'uhlising Co., Ltd. (The Dominion) foi a more explicit statement ol defence in the action brought by plaintiffs against the defendants for £2mm damages for alleged libel.
