Enquiries made to-day at headquarters regarding Mr Haldane's remarks on the creation of an army of empire elicited the information that doubtless the cablegram had reference to an attempt that had been made, and was progressing to have the outlying dominions and colonies of the Empire placed upon the same lines and establishments, and examination process as those which are obtained in regard to the British territorial forces. Already something to this end has been done on the lines desired. It is this which makes possible the interchange of oilicers of which an earnest may be seen in the contemplated despatch to England of four New Zealand oilicers, which will take place in a few weeks time. Even now Col. Roi.d! as chief of staff, is in close contact :h ihc military portions of the i.vteucc di’.-cin of Great Britain, and already tin: .filiations of offices, the standards and methods, and system and the character of the questions, problems, etc., submitted at tile various examinations held under the Council of Defence have been remodelled, so as to secure the uniformity with the Territorial scheme which the British Government desires.
