Tho examiners of the essays sent in for competition for Hie Bowen prize have awarded the prize to ” Old Whitgiftiun ” (Herbert Edgar Evans, of Victoria College, Wellington). r ilie University Senate decided to urge the Government to pay the University fees of those candidates for junior scholarships who had obtained a pass iwith credit in the exam., provided that they had not obtained a University scholarship. It was also resolved that in the English paper for matriculation Medical preliminary and Solicitors’ general knowledge, it be an instruction to the examiner that a material portion of the paper shall consist of such a character as to test the candidate’s English composition, spelling, punctuation, etc.
