Fire Brigade Conference
Per United Press Association. NELSON, Jan. 29. The Fire Brigades’ ' Conference opened to-day. Captain Twoinoy. of Lyttelton, was elected president. Tile report showed a credit balance of £258. It expressed regret that no Fire Brigades Bill had yet been placed on tho Statute Book for improving the status of brigades, but more' determined efforts would lie Hindu this year. One of the chief difficulties had boon the apathy of brigades which had taken no steps to invoke the assistance of local legislators who were not in touch with the objects of the Association in this direction. The Executive’s report showed a balance of assets over liabilities of £l5B 12s 3d. In tho competition conditions Rule 12 was altered to make provision for protests and it was resolved to set up : a special committee to select events to count for high pressure and manual engine events.
