Serious Railway Accident

PERTH, Aug. 3

A serious railway accident occuired at Broud Arrow, on the northern goldlields. The express was entering the station, and the engine and first carriage passed a set of points si:telv. but the second carriage, containing 30 passengers, split the, points and tcpplotl over. The four i«eniaining carriages, containing many passengers, swerved on to the loop line, luckily keeping the rails. Six passengers were injured : Martin Nicholson, compound fracture of. the collarbone, which penetrated the lung (his condition is serious) ; F. <J. Stanton, injured spine : Mesdames Williams, Sharp, and Phillips and Miss Warren, injuries to head and severe shocks. The official theory is that the accident was caused by failure to lock the points, the vibration ceusing them to shift.
