MELBOURNE, Feb. 4
The Premier, in moving the second reading, of the Railway Commissioners Bill, said tho saving already effected in railway management during the present financial year was £150,000. He urged that the railways must be managed on business lines, and that where an employe was found incompetent he shouftl be dismissed, instead of his superiors having to formulate charges against him. The bill proposes the appointment of three Commissioners.
SYDNEY, Feb. 4
As a result of tho conference between the N.S. Wales and Queensland Premiers the former sent a letter to Sir E. Barton dealing with the question of sugar rebate payments, suggesting a basis of distribution of revenue in tho various States, and outlining anomalies under the present system of paying rebates on sugar grown by whites.
