William Huncenaan, said to have been Brevet-Major in the Royal Dragoons, and to hatv been in the Egyptian army in the advance on Khartoum, was found guWty of obtaining money by false pretences at Masterton and remanded • for sentence. David Henry Patron was found " Not Guilty " of assaulting John Ilutcheson at Hongotea, Mr Justice Edwards expressing approval of the verdict.

At the Supreme Court this morning, before Judge Denniston, William ' Cole man, 21, against whom there were several previous convictions, was sentenced to six months' imprisonment for theft of a horse, saddle and bridle.
A curious . point was raised for the Court of Appeal in the case of a man, an illegitimate aon, charged with incest with hia half sister. Mr Hay, for, tho defence, raised the question whether tho Act making Incest a crime applies to illegitimates and quoted a Scottish decision in support. Mr Justice Denniston, while strongly of opinion that the objection must fail, agreed to reserve Ihe point. The jury found accused guilty and sentence was deferred till the May
' sessions at Christchurch ; bail being al- ! lowed. Mr Hay argued that Swhile the , Legislature no doubt meant the Act to apply to illegitimates the language of I the definition does not include them.
