A Poor Swagger's Fate.
(Per United Press Association.) Christchcrch, Feb. 14. Men clearing the large slip caused by the Cheviot earthquake on Jie Bluff road, have unearthed a swag identified as the property of John Connor, a single man, aged 40, who worked for Mr Cheviot, up to October 29th, just before the earthquake. He was at Port Robinson as&ing when the steamer left for Christchurch, and being told that she would not sail that day he shouldered his swag and left, apparently for McKenzie., He has not been seen or heard of since, and it is surmised that he was caught in the slip while passing under the Cliffs. His body is expected to be found in tht itebris now being cleared.
