Southland Pipe Band.
(By Tklfjiuaimi.) (from a correspondent, ) Chkistohphcii, Dec. 16. The. Southland Pipe Band, in travelling to Christchurch, were received with great enthusiasm. At Oamaru tho Band was met by a largo concourse of people, including the Mayor tvud tho directors of the Caledonian Society, who invited them to tho Star and Garter Hotel, where a few toasts were .honoured, andpleasureexpressedat theßand's calling at (Mnaru. At Timaru another large crowd awaited tho band's arrival and requested music, which was willingly complied with. Ashburton was the most enthusiastic place on the road, the whole population appearing to ha^e turned out. The president of the Musical Association welcomed the band and expressed his pleasure at the treat afforded. At Christchurch they were received by the officials of the Jubilee Celebration and tho Caledonian Society and its pipers. In the street there was an immense number of people, who soon became unmanageable, and progress became impossible, the thoroughfare being blocked. The Caledonian Society has placed its rooms at the disposal of the band, which in the procession tomorrow heads the old colon if ts and leading citizens.
