Harsh Treatment.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —Will you kindly give me space to make public an injustice that I think I have suffered at the hands of the Railway Department. lam a blacksmith to trade and have been employed for a period of six months in the railway worshops here. I was discharged, and a man sent from Christchurch was put in my place. I was, however, reinstated within a week, and again discharged after working about three weeks and another man put in my place. Now, sir, I-have fulfilled my duties to the utmost satisfaction of my superiors in the workshop, and 1 wish to know why I have been discharged and a man put in my place that is nearly double my ago. The classification rules provide that no one above the age of 35 years shall be employed by the Department. I am 32, and was consequently eligible for appointment to the permanent staff.—l am, &0., Charles Hunt. 12th July.
