Supreme Court

[By Telegraph.] Wellington, Dec. 2. Wm. Feversham was convicted on a charge of committing an unnatural offence and sentenced to five years’ imprisonment. Dec. 3. The Woodville criminal libel case. Clark v. Ilaggen was mentioned. Mr Jellicoe asked the Chief Justice if it was necessary for'the prosecutor to appear, seeing that the case had been settled by the parties. His Honour said that had nothing whatever to do with the Court. The prosecutor had set the criminal law in motion and he had been bound over to present a bill; if he did not do so his recognisance would be estreated unless he was able to show sufficient cauiO why it should not be. The criminal law was not to be made use of in order ta obtain a civil remedy ; that would be an abuse of the Court. Mr Jellicoe said that with His Honour’s permission he would mention the case again.
