The New Plymouth Murder.

(By Telegraph. ) New Plymouth, May 22. At the inquest on Maloney a boy stated that he 'saw the accused neat- the Salvation Army barracks, not far from the restaurant at 12.30 p.m. on the Friday in question. He delivered some flour at Carnell's, which Maloney had ordered, after 11 o'clock. He rode round by the recreation ground and delivered other things and got back to the store, but did not see the accused till the time mentioned. John H. Stitt, storekeeper, Opunake, stated he had never purchased any boots from the Egmont Boot Factory. (The prisoner had stated that he purchased boots from Mr Stitt,and this evidence was to show that the latter had never had any boots of the Egmont factory make for sale). He did not remember ever selling boots to Mahi Pai. W. H. Toogood, Pihami, stated that he did not sell or give a pair of drawers to Mahi Pai. (The prisoner had stated that he got the drawers he was wearing when arrested from Toogood). C. T. Mills stated that he saw Maloney with a purse like the one produced.
