Committee.. reported as follows :— (1) That 'tfie ; following appointmenthad been made— Riverton ::• Mr E. C. Hewat, 8. A., head teacher; Flints Bush; Mr D. (2) That the tender of William Lindsay for the erection of a , new school at Balfour had been accepted, the amount being L 132 6s. (3) That it had been de* elded to hold over .the matter of appointing a permanent teacher -for Springhills school till after the election of the new school committee; Mr S. R. Girle to carry on the school in the meantime. (4) That the Wallacetown committee's application for the appointment of a pupil teacher had been granted. (5) That application had been made to the Southland Land Board for the reservatioii'of five acres of land on the N.W. corner of section 26, -block" .7, Oteramika, for a school site. . . Applications for grants of naif the cost of sinking "a well and providing a pump at Drummond ; of erecting a stable at Slopedown, and of painting a fence at Mataura " were granted. The Otara- Committee applied to have a teacher's ' residence erected and a. fence painted.— Refused, owing to want of funds. The action of the Upper Shbtevier,Committee in objecting to the granting of a, mining claim which would include all or part of .the schdoTglebe was approved, and they .were authorised to protect the Board's i interests in. the : matter. - : • . / Tenders were, ordered to be called for the erection of schools at Wairekiki and Wai* kana to accommodate 40 and 30 pupils re* spectively./ ; ' ; : '-.«-, -.•...■■... Mr W. H. Qualter headinastet , at : Lower -.Shotover. Mr D. McKenzie resigned the mastership of the Otatara School, he having been appointed to Flints. Bush, and it|w'as. decided to take the usual steps to fill the/vacancy.
