Bible in Schools.
TO THE EDITOB.
81H, — If Mr Gordon and his coadjutors are really desirous of having Bible reading in the schools, why do they not use the means already at their disposal 1 There is no obstaclein the way, unless teachers and ich ol committees are obstacles. It is competent for a school committee to ask the head teacher of a school to begin work each morning with Bible reading, and it is competent, though not compulsory, for the teacher to comply. Children who*e parents object to such readiDg, would enter the class room when the exercise wai completed. High School Boards have made such a request to the teachers of High Schools, and have had it acceded to , and primary school committees have juat as much right in that way as High School Boards. Until Invercargill committees have beea urged to exercise that right, I shall not have much faith in the zeal of the Bible reading in school advocates. — I am, &c., Dubietas, Juiy 19th, 1887.
