Electoral Rolls.
TO THE KDITOB. Bib, — The election just terminated has several lessons to teach. Chief among these is .the shameful neglect of our electoral rolls. The certified roll for Hokonui is badly com* piled, badly printed, and worse read ; and is a disgrace to every. soul connected with it. Strange to say, our registrar la not even a resident of the district, and if the large centres like Winton, Gore, or Elbow are unable to famish a competent man, the little township of Waikaia can supply them with a score capable of effecting a marked improvement. The moit eccentric circumstance m connection. with, the. botch now current, as a roll is the omission, without rhyme of reason, of several residents here who have been on the electoral foil for years, ; and who have always taken a warm interest m political matters. If- these gentlemen have been fraudulently objected to, they wish to know the name of the objector.. If the Beturning Officer evolved their exclusion from his own consciousness they would like to be assured of his authority, At all events we claim m the future decent attention and legible printing, and trust to your powerful aid m assisting us.— l am, &c. ELKCrOB, July 22nd, 1884.
