White, of Sydney, won L 3700 in stakes by Martini-Henry's wins daring the late V.R.O. meeting. Telegrams to hand from Alice Springs, one of the stations on the overland telegraph liae, state that news reached there this morning that Giles' police party of five, sent in search of the missing exploring party under Readford, have suffered great privations. Three of Giles' party perished from thirst, but Giles himself and a boy are safe. Messrs Golisbrough and Co., Limited, offered 7100 bales at the wool sales to-day. 6400 bales were sold, greasy realising up to 15d, and scoured to 20d. A good demaud was 'experienced, especially on the part of American and continental buyers.
