♦ (FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.) A meeting of the Caledonian Society was held in the Fortrose Hotel on 24th ult., for the purpose of receiving the balance-sheet from last >ear, and to draw up a programme of sports for the coming New Year holiday. Mr T. Miller was unanimously elected to the chair, and in opening the proceedings for the evening, said he had much pleasure in reading the statement, inasmuch as after paying all liabilities in connection with last year's games, there was a surplus of £3 13s, and he felt confident that with proper management the Fortrose Caledonian Society would be more prosperous each successive gathering, and that the committee would leave no stone unturned to make the gathering of 1883 a complete success. The balance-sheet was a very satisfactory one, and reflected great credit on the retiring- committee, who were accorded a vote of thanks. The old committee was re-elected, with the addition of Mr J. Bell, who will act as hon. secretary. After transacting business in connection with the sports, a vote of thanks to the chairman closed the proceedings. With reference to the above I may say that all concerned seemed determined to make the sports, at Fortrose. for 1883 a success, and should the weather prove favorable, a large gathering may be anticipated. Subscription lists are already being largely subscribed to, and the local " peds" are in active training. A ball will take place in the evening after the sports, under the patronage of the society, the proceeds to be for the benefit of the Southland Hospital. Dec. 4th, 1882.
