The Waikato natives are availing themselves so readily of the Government's offers of land, through Judge Fenton, that the difficulty now is to find euough suitable blocks for them. - At a meeting of the Auckland Presbytery to-day, a letter was received from the Rev. Moses Breach, in which he stated that, being unable to appear in answer to the charges against him, he tendered his resignation as a member of the denomination. The resignation was accepted. It is reported that the Surrey Hill estate, Fonsonby, has been sold by the Hon. James William&on to the Waikato Land Company. He offered il to the City Council two ypars ago for £100,000. A resolution was passed by the Presbytery, affirming that union with the Church of Otago and Southland is desirable. UHRISTCHURCH, Wednesday. Another case of violent assault in the street was before the R.M. to day. Brown accused Holt of being a Feniau, crying out " Down him, and rot him." In Court he said he respected complainant as a brother, but his Worship said he took a singular way of showing his respect, and remanded him ; bail being allowed. At Leeston, early this morning, a swagger, who had been about the place for the past three or four days, was found dead in the middle of the road with his throat cut. It is understood he was suffering- from a weak constitution, and was also deranged. Au inquest will be held. The weather promises very badly for the transit to-morrow. It is blowing steadily from the north east, and the sky is thickly clouded. DUNEDIN, Wednesday. In the event of Mr Stout not contesting the Peninsula, Mr Bastings will come out in the Liberal interest. Mr D. S. Carrie, for many years local manager for th« N.Z. Shipping Company here, has relinquished his position to go into business. He will be succeeded by Captain Boyd, of the ship Piako.
