DEPUTATION FROM WAIKAIA.
A deputation consisting of Messrs Davie, • Braithwaite, Morris, and Hast, waited upon Mr Kolleston, in regard to having a block of 20,000 acres of land in the Waikaia district thrown open for sale. The depiw tation was introduced by Messrs Shan& and McCaughan. -4^* Mr Davis said that the block in question was at present set apart as educational reserves. He hoped that the Government would see the desirability of throwing the block open for sale on the deferred payment system, and failing that 'for lease. Mr Rolleston said that the land would bo advertised as open for lease within two months, and be submitted to auction about six weeks after. The terms on which the land would be available would be similar to those of the deferred payment system, with the exception of power of sale, which was not allowed under the Act.
