SOUTH INVERCARGILL TOWN COUNCIL.

A meeting ; of tshe. Town/ Council took place last night in Mr D. Rodie's Hotel, Appleby, f Present ; (Mayor),; Young, /Brown, ' Pollard, and Staunton. .In a letter as secretary of the 'Southland Hospital, Mr Willoughby applied for a donation from the Borough/ ••.■;. y.'"It was decided to postpone consideration of the subject till next meeting. . : His Worship read a letter from Mr -Stewart' complaining of a nuisance from the outfall in: I Dalrymple street of a drain running through ; his property, it being stopped up 7 The Mayor suggested a committee to look v into the rhatter^and Messrs Brown, Staunton,/ and Young/ were appointed accordingly with power to aeti Mr Willoughby tendered his resignation of Town .Clerk and Valuator. His Worship expressed great regret at this, aud hoped-Mr Willoughby would reconsider his decision, and- ait any rate retain the office : of Town Olerk. He would rather he had asked for an increase of . salary.. Mr WilloupHby positively declined to retain office, as the duties were too heavy. He would retain 'office foi* a time Until his! successor was appointed. The members generally expressed great regret at the l'esolution of Mr Willoughbyand it was agreed to consider the subject at next meeting. On the motion of -the Mayorit was resolved a special meeting should be held on Wednesday next toicbnsidef the Valuation /Roll; It was resolved on the motion of Mr Young, to utilise the road-metal stacked in Ythan street for improving -the street, so as to render it passable to cartel. ..: '.:"■• 4.,--, .-.,/ Permission was granted to W. Kelly to use some of the waste stuff lying in Elles road. With regard to extending the boundaries of the .municipality jadjourned from ■&• former meeting, it was- resolved to /further adjourn it to next. Mr Thomas Cooper sent in his resignation as councillor, and the Clerk was instructed to take steps to fill the- vacancy' and also those caused by the resignation of other two councillors. The meeting then adjourned.
