Fatal Accident. — On Tuesday night a boy nine years of age, son of Donald Stewart, settler, Oreti, was accidentally killed by a horse. No* further particulars are to hand. E.M. Court. — At the Eesident Magistrate's Court, yesterday morning, James Smith, for being drunk and disorderly, in Tay street, was fined 10s; while Thomas Cuxran and Robert Smith, both charged with the similar offence under aggravated circumstances, were each mulcted in a fine of £3, or an alternative of ten days imprisonment. Serious Affray. — An affray of a very serious character, but happily not so disastrous in its results as was at first reported, occurred in one of the Government cottages on the flat on Wednesday night. The alarming intelligence was conveyed to the police that a man had been murdered at the place indicated. Inspector Fox, accompanied by ' Sergeant Tuohy. proceeded there, and found a man named Ryan lying in a very weak state from blows he had received in a row. Some opposition was offered to the police arresting the men who had assaulted him, but finally three of them, named Jeffrey Grant, John Reid, - and "Daniel Murray, '"were safely tlepasitecl in the lock-up. The accused were Drought before the Resident Magistrate yesterday morning, and remanded until Monday. A. O. F.— The usual half -yearly meeting of the Court Star of the South, No. 5843, A.0.F., was held last night. Mitchell, who is the first member that has died since the formation of the Court. A new member having been elected, and two others proposed, the Court was closed after the fashion of the order.
