Wi9k's New Zealand Directory. — Mr Rose lias handed to us a copy of this elaborate work. Signs are continually appearing of the advance in all the products of civilization that the colony is makinjj, and this book strikes us as one of them. It is a large quarto volume, aiminj to be »iot only a Directory, but something of the nature oi v Gazeteor. It contains description* of tho different Provinces, thirty fine maps and plans, tables of statistics i\nd other generiil information. With regard to the more specific object of the. work, the names given of residents throughout the colony must be of great value to commercial men and to the community at large. We trust that the publication will meet with such success as will be an encouragement to Mr Wise to make still further improvements in his next issue, which we notice is to bo in 1877.
