WEDDING BELLS

A verv pretty wedding was solemnised on'Wednesday morning, when Miss Ada Sutton, daughter of Mr Sutton, of Hobart, Tasmania, was married to Mr R. Erasmusson, third son of Mr Erasmusson, Barrow St., Bluff. The wedding took place at the home of the bridegroom's parents, the Rev. Mr Hunt officiating, and'Mr W. Milley giving the bride awav. The bride looked very handsome in a . white cream costume and orange blossoms, whilst the bridesmaid (Miss E. Erasmusson) wore a navy blue costume and bouquet. Mr W. Erasmusson acted as best man. After the wedding ceremony the uarty sat down to a" substantial wedding breakfast when the health ol the bride and bridegroom was duly honoured. Mr R. Erasmusson being so well and favourably known at the Bluff since boyhood, the gifts were very numerous, and the bride, who has not been very long in the Bluff, has already made many friends. The happy couple mid-day train on their honeymoon in the North, accompanied by many showers of rice, the tooting of whistles, and the good wishes of their many friends. BAND. The local brass band. President and Vice-Presidents, held a meeting on Wednesday evening to consider the question of finance. The band are in the unfortunate position of having no .income sufficient to meet ordinary expenses. and a sub-committee was appointed to go into details and report to a meeting on a date to be fixed by the President. For the forthcoming Invercargill contest the following members have entered for competitions :—Solos BB bass, Jno. Keinan, Bb bass D. Miller, Eb bass R. Rose, S. E. Gilson ; Baritone, H. Burtenshaw : Trombone, G. Valentine ; tenor horn, F. Dale ; Bb cornets, F. Wilson, W, Wixon ; soprano cornet. 'A. McNish : trombone trio, Geo. Valentine, W. Rose, F. Johnson ; quartette No. 1. F. Wilson, W. Dixon ; J. Walker, W. .1. Newman ; quartette No, 2., A. McNish, J. Dale, F. Dale, D. Miller. ROWING CLUB. The Rowing Club social, held last week, was a very successful event, something like one hundred couples being present, and with Mr C. Forbes as M.C., Grant's orchestra in attendance, a good floor, and plenty to eat and drink, nothing more could be desired. Songs were contributed by Miss Keinan. and Messrs "Rrown and Parker, and a haka by a. number of local Maoris. A waltzing competition was also held.,in which Miss Hazel Smith and Mr H. Salmon were declared winners, with Mr and Mrs Butler second. For those not engaged in dancing a! euchre tournament was provided, the following securing the prizes : —Ladies : Mrs East 1, Miss Sheehan 2, Mrs Murphy 3 :

gentlemen :Mr J. Bradshaw 1 , Mr B. Finnerty 2, Mr .T. Guy 3. The opening- of the rowing season was celebrated by .a picnic at Green Point. Quite a procession of boats of all descriptions left the wharf, laden with picnic parties. Mr J. Barker, the energetic secretary, and his coifrmittee had provided lor the wants of all, so that everyone spent a happy afternoon in spite of the strong breeze that blew up before the homeward journey commenced. BREVITIES. Or. Valentine left by the s.s. Moana on Monday for Melbourne on a holiday trip. -*- The public area, at present closed to the public, is looking remarkably well, and should prove a pleasant sight this coming summer? 4'Another addition lias been made to the fishing fleet, a new launch having arrived from Invercargill to the order of Mr A. J. Silvester. The new craft is to be engaged in fishing at Stewart Island. ■s- - the close of the Oyster season preparations are being made for the building of new oyster beds at the west end of the harbour, the Harbour Board having given notice to have the existing beds removed. The local Tennis Club open their season on Saturday in the school grounds, with a Yankee tournament. Afternoon tea is to be dispensed by the ladies.
