Bluff Notes.

BREVITIES. During the week the wharf has presented a busy appearance, the shipping including such large steamers as the Kaikoura, Karamea, Marere, and Aparima, and the usual mail steamers Monowai and Warrimoo. To complete the week the s.s. Koonya is expected with a cargo of coal. Work commenced on the wharf at 12 o’clock on Sunday night, and continued night and day till Wednesday evening. The official returns from the railway department are to hand in connection with the guessing competition at the late regatta. At the time of writing the number of people who travelled that day has not been made known, but I understand it to 6902. The local Foresters were busy on Tuesday night entertaining their District Officers, and at the same time gaining a lot, of valuable information and advice. 6Bro. A. J. Lister was especially coinplimeuted on having introduced 31 new members during the year, which is believed to be an individual record for the District. Our genial stationmaster, Mr J. Guy, and his staff, are to be complimented on the way in which they have handled the heavy traffic during the week. In connection with the band carnival, Mr G. A. Whealler, has been appointed president, and Mrs Sutherland secretary. Giving a name to the Carnival has . been allotted to Mrs Whealler. On Tuesday night the ladies gave a return dance to the officers and engineers of the s.s. Kaikoura and Karamea. Carpenters and engineers are busy putting the finishing touches to the Rose Casey.
