MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS.

Voting for the election of the Mayor and Councillors of the borough of Invercargill took place on Wednesday. Mr W. B. Scandrett was re-elected Mayor, polling 1095 votes against 308 given for Mr R. B. McKay. There were 16 nominations for the twelve seats on the Council, end the election resulted in the return of the eight old members who offered themselves, and of Messrs A. Bain, J. Walker, G. Mr J. A. Mitchell was re-elected Mayor of East Invercargill with 113 yotes, as against 107 recorded for Mr James Smith.

For the South Invercargill Mayoralty Mr J. W. Perkins was elected by 114 votes to 84 polled by Mr G. R. Hilton. Mr Poppelwell beat Mr A. Mac Gibbon for the Gore Mayoralty, and Dr. Torrance, acting Mayor of Oampbelltown, was defeated for the position by Mr G. A. Whealler by 49 votes. Thirteen candidates offered themselves for the nine seats on the council, and the following were elected : —Messrs J. W. King, B. A. Nichol, A. McKenzie, R. A. Oruickshank, A. Parsons, J. Walker, J. Valentine, T, W. Parry, and J. P. Roberts. Six of these represent the Liberal and Labour Federation ‘ ticket.’
