Cycling.

Many attempts have been, made to find a fitting substitute for Indiarubber, but so far all admixtures have lacked the elasticity and durability of the genuine article. *** To enable the riders of Dunlop tyres to identify the tyres mannfactnred by the Company, each tyre is marked with its respective description embossed on the side, ‘ Roadster,’ ‘ Road Racing,’ ‘ Path Racing,’ and so forth. The two features, however, in which all the tyres are identical, are the principle of detachment and the quality of the material used, the excellence of both of which has been endorsed over and over again by Australian cyclists. # * * The majority of the American motor concerns are now striving to manufacture a cheap and reliable motor bicycle. There is no doubt a tremendous trade awaiting the first firm who can place such a motor bicycle on the market, as a machine of this description will be rideable on any class of roads, just the same as an ordinary cycle, and would naturally prove more serviceable on country roads than either three or four-wheeled vehicles. * * * The fabric is largely responsible for the speed and ‘ life ’ in a pneumatic tyre. Welch’s patent fabric, which is used in the Dunlop tyre, is manufactured from strands of the finest quality cotton, a material of great strength and pliability ; hence its marvellous resilience and speed. * All carriage owners who have had the Dunlop pneumatic carriage tyres fitted to their vehicles agree that an hitherto unobtainable comfort and pleasure is derived from their use. Dr. Frengeley (Christchurch) has a dog-cart so fitted. * * * In consequence of dishonest dealers in machines selling Dunlop tyres with inferior air tubes fitted, the Dunlop Company find it necessary to advise intending purchasers of cycles fitted with their famous tyres, to obtain a written or verbal guarantee from the vendor that the tubes are of the Company’s manufacture. * * «= Whatever advance may still be required in modern bicycle construction, the Dunlop tyre spells finality in one branch at least. This is the opinion of ‘ The Rock ’ (England).
