NOTES BY MAGPIE.

Sergeant-Major Kibbelwhite has now fairly entered upon his duties as local drill instructor, fourteen recruits parading on Thursday evening for the purpose of receiving tuition at his hands. * * * The Oreti Rifles had a very small muster at their weekly parade, and little drill was done. Four new members were elected to the corps, a direct result of the camp, I suppose. * * The formation of a district K.C.O.’s club was further discussed on Thursday last, and some progress made, a sub-committee being appointed to draft a constitution and to procure certain estimates for the information of members at next general meeting on December Bth. The use of the old gun room is to be asked for, with leave to make alterations aad improvements, which, should all eventuate, will prove a very great blessing for many purposes, there being at present no room available for holding meetings or company socials. ColSergeant Crawford occupied the chair, and all five corps were .veil represented, Sergt-Major Kibbelwhite being also in attendance.

During the progress of the above meeting an explanation was given by a member with regard to the removal of the cottage piano from the camp, with the particulars of which most Volunteers at the time were conversant. The said explanation should prove satisfactory to the owner, whose feelings were naturally seveerly injured, but other parties to the transaction do not consider the undue haste displayed quite the correct thing under the circumstances.
