CLIFTON.

On the evening- preceding the Prince of Wales Birthday a spinsters’ ball was held here, and proved very successful. The Committee, with Miss Peace as secretary, worked hard, and were rewarded by a good attendance, some coining from Kapuka and Invercargill. The hall was adorned with evergreens to represent springtime. Daring the evening a bountiful supply of refreshments was dispensed. Miss Mary Lambert, of Invercargill, discharged the duties of Mistress of Ceremonies in a praiseworthy manner. Excellent music was rendered by Mr and Mrs J. Holloway, violin and piano respectively. Dancing was kept up with unabated spirit till 4 a.m.
