DUNEDIN MARKETS.

The markets are thus reported on for the week ended 17th April: Fat Cattle.—The pens were well filled with 96 head, mostly cows and half-fat steers, with a few pens prime. Only the latter met with anything like brisk competition, at prices unimproved on last week’s. Other sorts were difficult to sell, and were mostly taken by graziers. Best bullocks sold at L 6 2s 6d to L 6 17s fid ; others, L 3 2s 6d to L 5 17s 6d; best cows, Lsss to L 67s 6d ; others, L2 17s 6d tc L 5.

Fat Sheep.—There was an average supply forward to-day, consisting of 100 merino wethers and 2561 crossbreds, nearly half of which were wethers. Sales opened fairly well at full recent quotations for wethers, which nearly all went to the freezing works, but ewe mutton was not much sought after, and prices suffered a further decline of 6d to Is, at which prices, we understand, some were taken for the boiling down works. Best wethers sold at 9s to 10s 9d ; other do, 7s to 8s 9d ; best ewes, 7s to 7s 3d ; other do, 4s to 6s 9d.

Fat lambs. —373 in—enough for butchers’ demands, which are slackening off. The quality was generally inferior, with one or two small pens prime. The latter sold at higher values, but others were dull. Best sold at 5s to Ss 3d ; others 3s 3d to 4s 9d. Sheepskins.—Country dry crossbreds inferior to medium, have brought Is 4d to 2s 4d; do do merino Is 3d to Is 8d ; medium to good crossbreds, 2s 6d to 3s ; heavy, 3s 3d to 3s 6d ; extra do, 3s 9d to 4s 4d ; good to best merino. Is lOd to 2s 9d ; heavy, 2s lOd to 3s 9d ; dry pelts, Id to Is 3d ; green crossbred pelts, Is 6d to Is lOd; picked lots for special purposes, 2s to 2s 3d ; green lambskins Is 6d to 2s 3d each. Hides. —Market unchanged, all coming to hand being taken up at prices on a par with late rates, which are—for inferior and light, Id to 1-Jd ; light to medium, Iyd to Iyd; heavy (501 b to 601 b), 2d to in faultess condition, 2fd. Grain.—Wheat: Quotations: Prime milling velvet and Tuscan, 2s 9d to 2s' 9-£d ; —extra prime a shade more ; good to best, 2s Byd to 2s 9d ; good to best red wheat, 2sßdto 2s Bgd ; medium milling and good whole fowls’ wheat, 2s 7d to 2s 8d; broken and inferior to medium 2s 3d to 2s 6d. Oats : This being a broken week, business in consequence has to some extent been interfered with. A. veiy considerable quantity is now coming to hand, but notwithstanding the fact that a large number of growers are storing for a time, there is still sufficient offering to meet the demands of buyers, and at prices showing no improvement on late quotations, which are—say, for prime milling, Is 3d ; best bright short stout feed, Is 2d to Is 2£d ; inferior to medium and good. Is Id to Is 2d ; long Tartars, fit for seed, Is 3£d (sacks extra net).
