(ivorn our own Correspondents.) „ RIVERTON;

The races have come and gone, and the town has returned to its usual quiet state, and is most likely to remain, so until'winter is over.

The farmers are busy carting in their grain, most of which is being purchased locally by Mr Matthew Tweedie, of the Riverton Flour Mills. An accident happened to Mrs Playfair, wife of a well-known farmer in this district. On Wednesday afternoon she was driving home when the horse took fright and bolted, and Mrs Playfair was thrown out. Luckily the accident happened close to the hospital, to which institution she was taken, when it was found that, beyond a severe shaking, she had suffered no injury. The residence of Mr E. Ward (mayor) is just about completed, and reflects great credit on the contractor, Mr Manning, of your town. Trade is very dull at present with us. Nearly everyone is complaining of the bad times. How we will winter it is more than I can tell. It is to be hoped that something good will turn up—for instance, the Longwood or something else.
