MUNICIPAL BUILDING.
+ POLL ON FRIDAY. On Friday next a poll of ratepayers will be taken on the proposed loan of £7OO for alterations and additions tQ the present Council Chambers. The plan of the alterations, now on view, in Mr T. C. Thwaites’ window, shows that it is intended to enlarge the present building, which will include better facilities for the reading room and library. The Post tund Telegraph Department have granted the Council a strip ol 18 inches -of land between the Post Office and present Council Chambers, and this will enable the Council to provide a much needed ladies’ rest room at the rear of the building. An office will be included for Jetting purposes and the revenue therefrom should bring in sufficient lo meet the interest and sinking fund on the loan. This proposition should appeal to the ratepayers as it is self supporting, apart from the fact- that the present building is now only an eyesire, but it fails to meet- the Borough requirements. The Mayor and councillors will further explain the proposal to-morrow evening at 7 p.m. in the Maoriland Theatre and every ratepayer should, if possible, make a point of attending.
