THE POET OUAEDS.

The Port Guards fired off the second competition for Captain Raymond s trophies on Saturday, Colour-Sergeant Stephen winning with 43 points from scratch. Private Morgan wins Kernohan, McGahon and Co s. prize. Owing to a strong wind blowing, i the shooting was much below the average. The conditions were 10 shots at 200yds, kneeling. The following are the scores :

At the monthly meeting of the committee of the North Otago Agricultural and Pastoral Association, on Wednesday, a discussion arose regarding stopping Government co-operative works during the harvest season, and mention was made of the refusal of the Hon. J. G. Ward to grant the stoppage. It was decided to join the Waimate Association in suggesting to the Government that the number of men so employed should be reduced as much as possible in the harvest season. The committee was of opinion that a good deal of difficulty would be experienced this year in getting harvest labour.
